Function Partial Stroke Test (PST) is used to test the response of the actuator and control unit without the need for full-motion of valve. Testing the system guarantees to avoid unexpected downtime.
To perform the PST test the valve must be in the open position. When this function is activated, the valve will move about 15 ° towards the closure. Since the valve is started, the system measures the time it takes for a complete PST test to take place. If this time is too long, this may indicate a defect in the valve and it consequently must be replaced. The test time is measured at the time of installation of the new unit and its initial commissioning. This measurement is the basis for the subsequent evaluation of valve status.
This function is very important in installations where it is not possible to stop the flow of the medium and the equipment must guarantee emergency operation.
